To play a sport well is hard, to excel in it even harder! All the famous basketball players on this page made it their goal to achieve their dreams and strove hard to leave no stone unturned, that is the reason that people remember them with respect and stand in awe of their achievements. Today I dedicate this page to all time famous basketball players. I am sure that their respective countries as well and families, friends and fans remember each game they played as clearly as if it were yesterday.

Michael Jeffery Jordan

Also known as Air Jordan and His Airness, Michael Jordan is definitely the greatest basketball players of all time. Born on February 17th, 1963, Michael joined the NBA’s Chicago Bulls in 1984. It was in 1991 that he won his first NBA Championship with the Chicago Bulls. This achievement brought many more his way. Michael Jordan has many individual achievements and accolades. The NBA record for the highest career regular-season scoring average and highest career playoff scoring average are also held by him. ESPN named him the greatest North American athlete of the 20th century in the year 1999. It was on April 6th, 2009 that Michael was elected into the Basketball Hall of Fame and was inducted on September 11th, the same year.

Wilt Chamberlain

Wilt Norman Chamberlain was also nicknamed Wilt the Stilt, Chairman of the Boards and the Big Dipper. Born on August 21st, 1936, Wilt Chamberlain was 7 foot and 1 inch tall. This famous basketball player holds many records and is the only player in NBA history to average more than 40 and 50 points in a season or score 100 points in a single NBA game. Apart from this Chamberlain had many more achievements to his credit like the Rookie of the Year award, the NBA Finals MVP award and the winning of two NBA titles to name a few. He was also enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1978. After playing basketball professionally Chamberlain played volleyball. He was also a businessman and authored several books. Chamberlain also appeared in the movie Conan the Destroyer.

Earvin Johnson

Also known as Magic Johnson, Earvin was born in August 14th 1959. Johnson started playing basketball early and after winning championships in high school and college was finally selected first overall in the 1979 NBA Draft by the Lakers. In the Rookie season he won a championship and an NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award. It was in the year 1996 that Johnson was honored as one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history and was enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame in the year 2002. ESPN rated him as the greatest NBA point guard of all time. In 1991 Johnson decided to retire announcing that he had HIV. He did play a few games after that but retired again in 1992 when his fellow players protested. In 1996 he came back to play 32 games for the Lakers before finally retiring for good. Johnson is now a motivational speaker and a philanthropist.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

Born Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor on April 16th 1947, Kareem was raised as a Catholic but converted to Islam later in life. As a basketball player Kareem won six NBA championships and a record of six regular season MVP awards. While he was in college in UCLA, Kareem played on three championship teams and even his high school team and won 71 consecutive games. Kareem displayed immense interest in basketball from a very early age and that is why he began his record breaking basketball accomplishments at that time. Today Kareem is a retired basketball player, actor, author and coach.

Larry Joe Bird

Larry Joe bird who was born on December 7th, 1956 is today a retired American NBA basketball player. Larry began playing basketball at an early age and by the time he was in sophomore has already become one of the better basketball players in the French Lick. He was interested in both football and basketball but quit both sports to concentrate on the one he loved more, basketball. Larry was drafted into the NBA sixth overall by the Boston Celtics in 1978. Larry Joe Bird was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in 1998. He currently holds the role of President of basketball operations for the Pacers, a role which he assumed in 2003.

Lisa Deshaun Leslie-Lockwood

Today a retired American professional women’s basketball player, Lisa has many accomplishments to her credit. This famous basketball player is a three time WNBA MVP and also a four-time Olympic gold medal winner. Leslie is also the first player to dunk in the WNBA game and was considered the cornerstone and pioneer of the league during her career. In the year 2009, Leslie became the first player to score 6,000 points in a career. In the same month she was also the first player to reach 10,000 career PRA, which is a statistical fundamental to the WNBA Pick One Challenge fantasy game. Leslie announced her retirement in 2009 and Sparks held a wonderful farewell ceremony for her during her final home game of the season in September.

Nera D. White

A retired American basketball player, Nera White was born on November 15th, 1935. Considered one of the most outstanding female players in history, Nera led the Nashville Business College Team to ten AAU national championships during the 15 years of her association with them. In the year 1957 she lead the US National Team and helped them win the World Championship where she was named MVP of the tournament and also voted the Best Woman player in the World. It was in the year 1992 that she was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and 7 years later in the Basketball Hall of Fame. She holds the 51st position on the list of all sports and is the sixth highest basketball player list.
